Nominet have launched .uk as a domain extension in the UK.

Existing owners of .co.uk have rights to register the domain (http://www.nominet.org.uk/news/press-releases/nominet-introduce-shorter-uk-domain-name-registrations) as a priority and that right is held open until 10th June 2019.

The existing plugin is ignorant of the rules relating to registration and so a situation occurs where a person can search for a domain name, it will appear to be available, and then the registration fails.

The correct procedure would be that the the domain *may* be available, and the rights are established prior to the registration being submitted to avoid refund situations.

The full rules are available at http://registrars.nominet.org.uk/sites/default/files/sldr_rules_140507_final_0.pdf

Technical process document is here http://registrars.nominet.org.uk/sites/default/files/sldr_changes_to_processes_document_v3.pdf
